During the Syracuse volleyball team’s Friday evening match against Duke, junior setter Tehya Maeva notched her 2,000th career assist. She is currently on track to pass Laura Homann (’12), who finished her career with 2,097 total assists and sits presently tenth all-time in Syracuse history.
Maeva, a San Diego native, is now 7th in the ACC this season with 565 assists. She finished the game with 32 assists, five kills, and one ace, as the Orange dominated the Blue Devils in straight sets.

After the game, Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam said that it was the best game Maeva had in a Syracuse uniform.
“You see the quality she has today. She does that in our gym, day in, day out. I mean, it’s incredible. The volleyball IQ, the ability to lead the team and orchestrate our offense, was really, really well done today,” Ganesharatnam said.
Maeva, however, did not view the accomplishment as an individual accolade, but rather one belonging to the team.
“I think it’s a huge shout-out to my team, my teammates,” Maeva said. “I couldn’t do it without my passers setting me up for success, and then my hitters finding ways to score.”

A graduate of Cathedral Catholic High School, Maeva played both volleyball and beach volleyball. There, she won a state championship with her high school volleyball team and a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship with her beach volleyball team in 2023.
Before transferring to Syracuse, Maeva played for the University of Nevada, where she led the Wolfpack in both assists and aces in 2024. At the end of the season, she was named to the Roadrunner Classic All-Tournament Team.
Now a member of the Orange, Maeva is becoming a household name in the Syracuse volleyball community. And that same community has now witnessed four ACC victories this season, topping the three combined ACC wins that the Orange had accumulated in the two seasons prior.
“It’s just a true testament to what we’ve been working on and what we want to continue to keep doing,” Maeva said.

The Orange, now 12-5 overall, are in for another benchmark game, as they get ready for their Sunday afternoon matchup against the Tarheels. UNC is currently ranked No. 21 in the country and is undefeated in conference play.
